Allan Todd Director UKCN

In February 2023 Charlie’s Angel Foundations, a specialit bereavement charity in Leeds, reluctantly decided to wind down its counselling services for bereaved parents. UKCN Director Allan Todd, who was also a Trustee of the Charlie’s Angel Foundation, was determined to find a way to keep the services going and this is how Charlie’s Corner has been developed to provide an ongoing service for bereaved parents and their families.

Allan worked closely with Ruth Curtis and Sam Key, both founding members of Charlie’s Angel Foundation to create the new Charlie’s Corner. To symbolise the handover and celebrate the continuation of this vital work ‘Charlie Bear’ has been handed over from Charlies Angel Foundation to UK Counselling Network who will continue to develop this incredible service. Allan himself brings years of experience working with bereaved parents , individually, in couples and in groups.

Many of the families Allan has worked with will be familiar with his “red bus” and the way he has used it to work with his clients as well its part in his talks and training on the subject of the loss of a child. Both Charlie Bear and the Red Bus have come to represent UKCN’s Charlie’s Corner Service which acknowledges the great work of Charlies Angel Foundation and equally looks forward to providing bespoke bereavement services in the future.

About Charlie's Corner

2012 Charlie's Angels Bereavement Centre was originally opened after one families loss of Charlie Arthur Curtis in 2012. Their aim was to ensure every bereaved parent and family left hospital with an after-care plan in place and to ensure a complete support network.

February 2023 Charlie's Angels Bereavement Centre decided to wind down and Allan Todd, a Director of UK Counselling Network, adopted 'Charlies Bear' and brought it to the Head Office in Drighlington so he could continue to symbolise this incredible service

2023 - The Bear and the Red Bus join forces - therapy in action As part of his work with families, Allan worked with his 'Red Bus' and together with Charlie Bear, they have come to represent UKCN's Charlies Corner Service. They are the focal point of his talks and trainings & an acknowledgement of the great work of Charlies Angel Foundation.

We offer a low-cost counselling service and there is no limit on the number of sessions provided. Accessing our services is very straightforward – self-referrals are welcome and we can be contacted by phone, email or via our referral page on our website.

  1. Step One: Contact us via email, telephone or booking form
  2. Step Two: We will book you in for an assessment which will take approx. 15 mins
  3. Step Three: We will place you with the most suitable therapist or group and your sessions will begin at a mutually agreed time
  • Bereavement Counselling
It is important to give appropriate focus to the special needs of parents and families following the loss of a child. That is why we place a special emphasis on specific training for our bereavement counsellors so that they can provide an informed and highly supportive counselling service.
  • Couples Counselling
We also recognise and understand the need for some of our bereaved parents to meet with our counsellors as a couple and we explore with couples ways in which they can grieve together.
  • Group Counselling
The loss of a child affects many other family members too, siblings and grandparents, for example, can feel helpless and overlooked. They too might seek individual counselling but our bereavement groups are just as effective spaces express mourning and grief with others who understand and identify with similar feelings and experiences.
